  • 35 Things I Learned Freshman Year

    1. I have learned to be more confident this year, comfortable with who I am

    2. Remember this- buy cheap, white, towels next time-save the fancy monogrammed ones someone gave you for when you're on your own, otherwise they may get permanantly bleached by your roomate's acne medicine.

    3. Figure out how you best deal with conflict before the conflict occurs

    4. Give-but set boundries

    5. Don't try to be cool-just be cool

    6. Buy books on E-bay

    7. Stuff accumulates-start by bringing the bare minimum next time

    8. Gym=stress reliever

    9. I like hiking alone, but maybe most of the time I should let lots of people know when I'm going and where I am and find an occasional hiking buddy so my parents don't worry about me

    10. Bigger fridge

    11. Less movies-never watched half the ones I brought

    12. Two all-nighters in a row=sick,sick

    13. I am a caffeine addict, but I'm strangely proud of it

    14. Studying psychology has permanantly changed the way I view the world, and I don't think I'll ever be quite right again.

    15. College guys flirt like crazy, but a lot of times they don't mean anything by it. It's not worth over-analysing: if they want something more, they should make their intentions clear.

    16. Also, I've decided not to pay much attention to guys in general in the romantic sense-if it's meant to become something, then it will have to be made super clear, and then Ill have to pray about it and decide if it's what I really want. I see this all the time and choose to say "NO" to husband hunting.

    17. OMLETS=motivation for getting up early.

    18. YouTube=Friendly, neighborhood procrastinating and bonding device

    19. CAR

    20. I just realised that none of my guy friends (at college) actually know THAT much about me (factual stuff-they know my personality). But my guy friends at home do. IE: I've done ballet for 13 years or.....I've been camping my whole life. Weird, huh?

    21. Sometimes girls just want to be your friend..........and they don't know you. And then one day you find yourselves exchanging squeals and hugs with this person that you don't actually know all that well.....which makes you appreciate.....

    22. The people that come into your room uninvited, plop down in the middle of your floor, make themselves some tea, and start telling you about their day. (love it!)

    23. Sometimes staying up talking is more important than schoolwork

    24. Sometimes schoolwork is more important than staying up talking

    25. Extreme sleep deprivation is a lot like being drunk

    26. People aren't ever who you originally assume they are

    27. People can hear you through the walls in my building

    28. 1920's window:easily converted into window seat making in the perfect day-dreaming perch

    29. Work hard and it will ALWAYS get done somehow

    30. Never give too much away too quickly

    31. Some people deserve to be let in

    32. I learned I actually do know how to flirt, and that I don't like doing it. Also sometimes that I can't seem to help it.

    33. Stupid blushing

34.In presentations that seem doomed to failure=be confident and try to add funny pictures into your powerpoint.

    35. Anything can become an obsession=so be wise in your choice...choose God. Good things can become bad things when they become idols

True dat, Katie.  I can comment upon every single one of the 35 lessons above, but that would take forever.  Hey, I think we're growing up!

it sounds like your first year was great and you learned lots of good and important lessons... God is molding you into a wise and mature lady! :) I love reading your writting... it sounds like your experience at Covenant is very similar to how mine was... though i'm still trying to figure out where the heck my brother went to school... because his experience has been SOOOOO different :)... perhaps it's because we are girls... anyway... isn't it great to look back over the year and see how you have changed, and how God is leading you? :) thank you for posting... i hope you have a wonderful summer! :)
